Location: Surrey Care Awards 2013, at Epsom Downs Racecourse. Friday 22nd November 2013

Care Unlimited are extremely proud to announce that we had a successful night at the 2013 Surrey Care Awards, with 5 finalists and 3 winners – James Ballinger, and Danny & Carmelita Shamtally.

James Ballinger successfully and deservedly won the “Frontline Leader of the Year” with his work in one of our Dom Care Supported Living Services specialising in Learning Disabilities and Autism. The category is “for a person who is a supervisor, senior care worker or first time manager and has shown clear commitment to improving the delivery of care and support within their team”.

“James leads from the front and understands that staff learn in different ways. One of the most important points he has been able to teach the team is that everyone will react differently and how you react can either build the client’s confidence or deflate it”.

James is also Deputy Manager for our Domicilary Care division, under the very supportive mentorship of his manager Susan Hill. Key to his winning nomination were the very heart-warming testimonials from various people who have observed his excellent work. He pipped our other finalist Gassen Rungasamy from Chipstead Lodge to the post within the category.

And more!

Our other winners took a joint win for “Outstanding Contribution to Social Care” for our founding directors Danny & Carmelita Shamtally – also in their 40th year of marriage! “For a person who has dedicated the greater part of their working life to the adult social care sector and who has provided a consistently good standard of service to service users, their families / friends and to the staff team.”

The awards summarised: “Back in the 1970s Danny and Carmelita created an original formula of homey care far removed from the institutional care that was the norm. To this day they bring a culture of warmth that creates a home from home and responds to the individual needs of residents. Their successful business has grown but they still feel it vitally important to make themselves available in person to residents and staff.”

We were overwhelmed with the volume of testimonials that came in to support their nomination from residents, relatives, health care professionals and of course staff. We are indebted to them for spending the time to prove their worthiness for this very special award, a wonderful reflection of their dedication to Social Care in the Surrey for over 40 years – each!

We look forward to next year’s Surrey Care Awards with the confidence that we shall build on our recent success in Social Care excellence.
