 About Strada Care

Strada Care started out as the Supported Living division of the Care Unlimited Group, a family-run care provider in Surrey. Since 1983, the provider evolved its services in mental health, dementia and learning disabilities care and support and in 2011, Care Unlimited expanded into Supported Living services.

Strada Care – an exciting evolution of quality care and support

In February 2018 Strada Care completed months of planning to rebrand as a completely new separate service provider specialising in Supported Living from the Care Unlimited Group it has been a part of since inception in 2011, which now focusses on Residential and Nursing Care. Strada Care is being repositioned to achieve ‘Enriched Supported Living’, with a focus on the learning disabilities adults sector, including autism, and more recently mental health conditions, ABI and complex needs.

Strada Care has reviewed how it works with the individual service users, with revised person-centred care planning to nurture and promote the development and potential of all of its service users as appropriate, responding to personal needs and ability.

Revised key worker teams are being developed to allow support workers to participate more closely and focus more on all aspects of the needs and abilities of all service users in their care.

We currently have supported living services in Merstham, Ashtead, West Ewell and Sutton with between 2 and 7 house-sharing tenants at each home.

This is already leading to improved communication with relatives, advocates and health care professionals, as well as other linked stakeholders in the local community also leading to improved access of services. In the latter part of 2018, we shall kickstart our new drive to grow our supported living services to new service users in partnership with Havenmore Housing and Reside Housing. A brand new management structure has been implemented.

Director Reza Shamtally now focusses day-to-day on the commercial, marketing and IT interests of Strada Care as Managing Director. Caroline Kaiser head ops as Operations Director and on 1st March 2021 expands her role to as Service Manager overseeing all supported living services, supported by Deputy Manager Sue Johnson. Along with a strong Team Leader tier, they deliver a group of services split across 5 houses in 4 locations across Surrey and Sutton. The new management structure is already offering us immediate improvements in overseeing all services users’ care and support across the 5 houses, and greater communication in the hope of enhanced person-centred care delivery to our valued services users.

Strada Care is passionate to explore innovation in the health and social care sector.

"Strada Care" - Strada? What does this mean?

Strada is the italian word for ‘road, path, pathway, street’. We think it represents the path, the journey we share with those we care for and support, towards achieving their potential and their aspirations wherever possible.

Background to Strada Care, founded in 2011

Strada Care (then Care Unlimited Domcare) was set up responding to the closure of a large NHS Campus in Surrey for adults with learning disabilities in 2011, and one was of three service providers to win a tender process and provide care and support in the Surrey community – Strada Care was the only newcomer to Supported Living to win the tender. This was its first diversification into Supported Living, having already operated a residential care home for Learning Disabilities, and three other Care Homes in Mental Health and Dementia. Again, the development was done within the family-run business and the new service quickly built a strong reputation with the local authorities (Surrey, Croydon, Sutton, Southwark and Lambeth), families and the CQC.

The service enjoyed multiple successes over several years at the prestigious Surrey Care Awards with winners in categories, notably for the original Care Unlimited founder directors Danny and Carmelita Shamtally who won the ‘Outstanding Contribution to Social Care Award’ in 2013. Other staff successes included: Frontline Leader Award 2013, Innovative Activity Programme Award 2014, and Care Newcomer of the Year 2016. In 2023, we are running our own internal Strada Care Awards, We are committed to submitting nominations for the SCA Awards in 2024 and beyond!
